Everything you need to know about Food Loop, from getting started to managing your orders.
Food Loop is a mobile marketplace that connects people with surplus or near-expiry food to buyers who want it at reduced prices. Our mission is to reduce food waste, save money for both sellers and buyers, and promote sustainable food habits in our communities.
Downloading and browsing Food Loop is completely free. Buyers pay only the listed price for items they purchase. Sellers may be subject to a small platform fee on successful transactions — this is displayed transparently before listing.
Food Loop is currently focused on communities in Uganda. We plan to expand to more regions in the future. If you'd like to see Food Loop in your area, reach out to us at 2023bit073@must.ac.ug.
Download the Food Loop app, tap Sign Up, and register with your email address or phone number. You'll receive a verification link or OTP to confirm your account. Once verified, you can start browsing or listing food immediately.
Open the app and allow location permissions. The home feed automatically shows listings near you. You can also use the search bar to find specific items or filter by category, price range, or distance.
Sellers are required by our Terms of Service to only list food that is safe for consumption. However, Food Loop does not physically inspect listings. We encourage buyers to review seller ratings, check expiry details in the listing, and use their own judgment. If you receive unsafe food, please report it immediately through the app.
Food Loop supports the following payment methods:
All card transactions are encrypted and processed securely by SeerBit.
You can cancel an order before the seller confirms it. Once confirmed, cancellations and refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you received food that was incorrectly described or unsafe, contact us within 24 hours at 2023bit073@must.ac.ug and we will investigate.
After your order is marked as completed, you'll receive a prompt to rate and review the seller. You can also navigate to your order history, find the completed order, and tap Leave a Review. Reviews help keep our community safe and trustworthy.
Tap the + button on the home screen or navigate to My Listings → Add New. Fill in the title, description, category, price, quantity, and upload clear photos. Set an expiry or pickup deadline and tap Publish. Your listing goes live immediately.
You can sell any surplus, near-expiry, or excess home-cooked food that is safe for consumption, including:
Alcohol, tobacco, raw meat without proper handling disclosure, and controlled substances are strictly prohibited.
For card-paid orders, payments are disbursed to your registered account after the order is marked complete, minus a small platform fee. For Cash on Delivery orders, you collect payment directly from the buyer at handover. Ensure you mark orders as complete promptly to trigger disbursement.
